Bring A Donation for Northwest Harvest, Get A Free Popcorn!
Eyeing that cupboard full of cans, wishing you had a bag of hot popcorn instead? We can make that happen.
Starting November 2015, guests that attend a show at Jet City Improv and bring a donation of a nonperishable food item(s) for Northwest Harvest will receive a free popcorn as our way of saying thanks. Simply show your donation to the volunteers in our concessions stand when ordering your snacks, place the donation in the box beneath the counter, and enjoy your freshly popped popcorn!
We’ve been a proud supporter of Washington’s statewide hunger relief agency for many years now, and we’re excited to bring in our audiences to do even more good for those who need our help. Our popcorn doesn’t keep very well, so we can’t donate it directly, but we’re happy to give some to you as a thank-you snack. It’s just another way we like to practice improv for good.
If you’re excited but not sure what to donate, here is what Northwest Harvest recommends:
Northwest Harvest can use any nonperishable food or monetary donations. If you prefer to donate food, select shelf-stable food with the lowest saturated fats and refined carbohydrates (sugar, white flour). We buy white rice, beans, oats, pasta and tomato products in bulk, so we encourage you to donate other items. Here are some suggestions (ranked by importance):
General food items:
- Beef stew, chili and similar meals with low salt, sugar and saturated fats
- Canned fruit, especially with low sugar (but not artificial sweeteners)
- Canned fish or meat
- Peanut butter (plastic jars are preferred)
- Canned vegetables (low sodium)
- Brown rice
- Whole grain pastas
- Tomato products and canned sauces
- Shelf-stable milk
Infant and baby foods:
- Baby formula
- Jars of baby food
- Powdered or canned milk
- Infant cereal
We also accept baby diapers.
So there you have it. Plenty of ways to help plus a crunchy, salty reward for being a good person.
