Jet City Improv seeks improvisers and actors with improvisational experience. Requirements are 2 years of improv experience and a cursory knowledge of the source material (“The Magic School Bus”).
Must be 18 or older to audition.
We are specifically looking for performers who excel in dark humor, and can execute that humor in a way that doesn’t leave the audience feeling sad or angry. Location-establishment and scene-building skills are also highly valued.
Performers of all genders and ethnic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Our company welcomes actors that identify as womxn, LGBTQ+/MOGAI, and any member of underrepresented groups. About the Show
The Tragic School Bus will be a dark comedy about of group of adults forced to relive their elementary school education under the guidance of a disquieting teacher. It will be inspired by the 90s educational television program The Magic School Bus. Scenes will be influenced by audience suggestions for topics they’d like to learn, and then the characters go on an adventure.
The Tragic School Bus is created by Jet City Improv company member Jessica Dunstan.
Auditions will Sunday, June 23, 7-10pm. This is a group audition. Please be prepared to be available for the whole 3 hours, although some auditionees may be released early.
Auditions will consist of a combination of games and open scenes
Location is TBA.
Rehearsal & Performance Details
Rehearsals will be one weeknight and one weekend afternoon throughout August and September.
Performances are Saturdays at 10pm (9:00 call time), September 21-November 23.
Exact performance dates:
September 21, 28, October 5, 12, 19, 26, November 2, 9, 16 and 23, 2019.
Performances (and many rehearsals) take place at Jet City Improv: 5510 University Way NE, Seattle.
This show pays a stipend of $20 per performance, or $200 for the whole run.
