The Production Technician for The Drama Room ensures smooth technical operations, supports performances, and manages the space. This role acts as the primary technical improviser, collaborates with the Drama Room House Manager and Production Operations Manager, and serves as a key contact for Test Flights and new shows.
JCI Test Flight showcases fresh improv formats, bold new ideas, and works-in-progress created by members of the community. These shows may feature students, emerging performers, or seasoned improvisers testing out their creative concepts.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Operations:
- Serve as the primary technical improviser for Drama Room shows, acting as stage manager when needed.
- Ensure all performances are recorded and uploaded to the OneDrive.
Team Management:
- Manage and schedule improv techs when you are not available for performances.
- Train new improv techs to ensure consistency in technical operations.
- Coordinate cleaning personnel schedules, who will conduct deep cleaning twice a month. Follow up on space maintenance and ensure standards are met.
Space Maintenance:
- Visit the Drama Room weekly to tidy, collect packages, organize, and perform regular maintenance and repairs.
- Oversee mail, improvements, and office upgrades, transferring items from storage as needed.
Purchasing & Inventory:
- Decide on and purchase space upgrades in coordination with the Business Director and restock items as they arrive.
- Help manage and organize concessions, suggesting orders to the Business Director.
Test Flights & New Shows:
- Act as the production manager for Test Flights (new shows) once approved by the Artistic Director, ensuring the show has what it needs in the space.
- Be the primary point of contact for Test Flights, attending or watching recordings to evaluate and recommend further Test Flights with the Artistic Director.
- Act as the liaison for directors and the space for Test Flights.
- Encourage Test Flight submissions and identify opportunities to host community shows, fostering belonging and engagement within the local artistic community.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and remain calm under pressure.
- A Washington MAST permit is required to sell canned alcohol (Jet City Improv will reimburse for time and cost to obtain the permit).
- Technical proficiency with theater equipment, including sound and lighting, or a willingness to learn.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
- Physical capability to lift and move equipment (up to 30 lbs) and perform light maintenance tasks.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional daytime hours.
- Proactive approach to identifying and addressing operational needs within the space.
- A passion for theater and a commitment to creating a positive audience experience.
