What is jet city improv?
Jet City Improv is Seattle’s longest-running improvisational theater, bringing unscripted comedy, connection, and creativity to the stage — and the community — since 1992.
We produce fully improvised shows that are made up on the spot — no scripts, no rehearsals, just lightning-fast comedy fueled by audience suggestions. From short-form games to longform stories, musicals, and murder mysteries, every performance is a one-night-only experience.
We perform across two venues:

We perform across two venues:
- West of Lenin (Fremont): Our 82-seat mainstage home for headline shows.
- The Drama Room (University Heights Center, U-District): A 40-seat black box theater for ensemble shows, late-night formats, student showcases, community performances and Test Flights (our experimental series for new improv formats and emerging artists).
- 🎭 Shows – From our flagship mainstay shows to improvised plays, festivals, and guest teams, we bring a wide range of formats and styles to Seattle stages.
- 🎓 Classes – We teach improv through our Jet City Improv Academy (11 leveling up classes), plus drop-in jams and skill-based workshops.
- ❤️ Outreach (Improv4Good) – Each summer, we visit camps for children with disabilities and serious medical conditions, performing joyful, interactive shows that center play, laughter, and connection. Throughout the school year, we provide weekly improv and storytelling workshops at the King County Juvenile Detention Center, giving incarcerated youth a creative outlet, a sense of agency, and a chance to be heard. These programs are completely free to the organizations we serve, and made possible thanks to the generosity of our donors, audience members, and community supporters.
- 🏢 Corporate workshops for team building, communication, and creativity
- 🎉 Comedy To Go shows for private events, fundraisers, parties, schools, and surprise appearances
What is improv?
Improvisational theatre, or improv, is the form of theatre, often comedy, in which most or all of what is performed is unplanned or unscripted: created spontaneously by the performers.
In its purest form, the dialogue, action, story, and characters are created collaboratively by the performers, on the spot, right in front of the audience There is never a written script for these performances, but sometimes there is a pre-planned structure or skeleton to the show or story.
In short, it's a group of people on stage, taking suggestions from the audience, and creating a story immediately.
It is NOT stand-up comedy, and it is NOT sketch comedy.

What about Audience interaction?
Audience interaction is part of every Jet City Improv show — it’s one of the things that makes each performance truly one-of-a-kind.
Sometimes we’ll ask the audience to call out suggestions during the show (like a favorite place or object). At many mainstage performances, you’ll have the chance to fill out suggestion cards before the show that help shape the scenes, characters, or storylines we create on stage.
Occasionally, we may invite volunteers to join us on stage for a short scene or moment. These opportunities are always simple, fun, and guided by our performers — no acting skills required! Participation is completely voluntary, and always done in a way that’s respectful and low-pressure.
Whether you want to jump in or just sit back and enjoy the laughs, you’ll never be put on the spot without your consent.
All we ask is that suggestions and participation keep with the tone of the show — especially if you’re attending an all-ages performance.

Why do you do this? Why don't you just use a script?
Because improvisation is what we love, and it’s what we do best.
We believe that improv creates a kind of theater you can’t get anywhere else — one that’s alive, present, and fully collaborative. With no script to follow, our performers must listen deeply, take risks, and respond in the moment — which means the audience isn’t just watching a story unfold, they’re helping shape it.
Every Jet City Improv show is a shared experience between performers and audience. We treat the crowd as co-creators, not just spectators. That sense of immediacy, surprise, and joyful collaboration is why we do what we do.
It’s not easier than using a script — but we believe it’s more electric, more human, and more fun.

Are your shows appropriate for all ages?
Most of our shows are suitable for all ages, and we welcome audiences of all kinds. That said, each show is unique — some feature more playful, family-friendly content, while others may include occasional mature themes or language (for example The Naughty Show).
We leave the decision up to you. We never turn anyone away based on age, and we trust individuals and families to choose what feels right for them.
For guidance, please check the show description on our ticketing page, where we note if a show is best suited for older audiences or includes potentially sensitive content.

When will the show be over? How long is the show?
All of our shows are scheduled to run roughly 90 minutes (with a ten-minute intermission).
What do you have to eat and drink?
Most spaces will have canned alcoholic beverages, non alcoholic beverages and small snacks or candy.
Can I bring in my own food or drinks?
Sorry, but unless you’ve booked the theater for your own private event, there is no outside food or drink minus your own water bottle.
If you want to bring this up with someone, bring it up with the gentleman who brought in his own kimchi and then disposed of it in a bathroom trash bin where it sat for two days undiscovered, thereby totally justifying this rule.
